Perched high above the bustling streets of the Garment District, Castell is a tasteful refuge from the hustle below, sitting atop the new acclaimed AC Hotel on West 40th street.
Leading with a classic cocktail program grounded in NYC history, contemporary décor, elevated service, and iconic Manhattan skyline views, the rooftop bar is a sophisticated addition to the neighborhood. Castell will serve as a destination for locals and tourists alike, providing a spirited experience and welcoming atmosphere in a delightedly discreet location.
The name Castell comes from the Catalan word for ‘Castle’ as well as the aptly named Catalonian tradition in which teams work together to build towers of people standing on each others shoulders – called castells – stacking nearly forty feet high. The name reflects the bar’s aerie in the sky, as well as its Spanish roots; originating in Madrid Spain
by founder Antonio Catalan.
The Castell beverage program celebrates the iconic martini, returning to the elevated service found at classic cocktail bars of the 1960s. With multiple martini incarnations ranging from Dry to Dirty, 50/50 and Spanish, the martini menu at Castell includes a gin and/or vodka option with a profile and garnish specifically tailored to the drink at hand.
Additional libation options are arranged on the menu via style – stirred, shaken, hi-balls and large format – with classics including a Smoked Manhattan, a Cadillac Margarita, the house AC Gin & Tonic and an on-tap Salted Grapefruit Paloma, the latter two a nod to the hotel’s Spanish heritage. Castell also invites guests to order from their full spirits, wine and beer menus.
Set to balance the robust beverage offering, the food menu at Castell includes a broad array of refined and
reimagined bar plates. Filtered through a Mediterranean lens, dishes are sorted into categories including Tastes (crispy sea salt potatoes with smoked paprika and aioli; a classic shrimp cocktail; and a selection of artisanal cheese and charcuterie), Toasts (including a country bread toast with fire roasted eggplant, tomato confit, and fresh herbs), Salads (from endive to heirloom tomatoes and antipasto), and Larger & Shared Plates (such as ahi tuna tartar with avocado, mango, soy-sesame dressing and olive oil crackers, and a flatiron steak with crispy potatoes, dressed arugula and romesco).

Designed by Dan Mazzarini and BHDM Designs, Castell is a destination within the hotel itself, offering both indoor and outdoor accommodations. It is a warm and sexy rooftop living room lounge with strong geometric influences, inspired by the vaults and shapes of Spanish architecture.
As guests step on to the 21st floor of the AC hotel, they are transported to a sleek, modern oasis, accented with a fireplace lounge, plush, comfortable seating options both inside and out, banquettes and bar seats, and a verdant, beautifully landscaped garden terrace. Contemporary and bespoke furniture adds an intimate and hospitable vibe, with fixtures adding to the clean, modern and residential ambiance. Combinations of marble and rustic wood elevate the bar atmosphere from Times Square rooftop to sophisticated Manhattan hideaway.
